At its last general meeting, the Swiss-Russia & CIS Chamber of Commerce decided to make a new start. Twelve years since the opening of the Romand chapter of the Joint Chambers of Commerce and four years after the creation of our chamber, we have decided to adopt a new name. From now on, our Chamber will be called "Union of Chambers of Commerce Switzerland-Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Armenia,
Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan" to cover all Russian-speaking countries, which we aim to represent.
We have set ourselves the goal of expanding the number of members in the French-speaking cantons as well as in member countries, diversifying our services to members and organizing more thematic meetings for our member companies. We will also continue to organize what has made the success of our organization, namely visits of business delegations. After Moscow, Kiev, St. Petersburg, Kazan and Baku, we have visited Ashgabat, Yerevan, Sochi and Dushambe, as well as Ufa, Surgut and Khanty-Mansiysk, Astana and Almaty. Wee visited companies in Moscow as well as met high-level business delegations in Novosibirsk and Bishkek. Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan were in the programme for 2019.
In the beginning of June, as of the request of SECO, I moderated the Swiss-Russian Round Table at the Saint Petersburg Economic Forum, in the presence of the Swiss economic leaders such as: Nestlé, Syngenta, Roche, Novartis and Holcim. Against all forecasts, the Russian economy has gone through the oil and ruble crisis relatively well and is now returning to the growth stage, particularly in the industrial and agricultural sectors. Investments, thanks to a cheap ruble, become attractive again. The vagaries of politics have never prevented us from moving forward. Now that the sky clears up, it's time to go forward.
